Today, the China-Laos Railway has become the preferred mode of transportation for Lao people to travel. As of May 3, 2022, the China-Laos Railway has been in operation for five months, showing a boom in passenger and freight transportation, and the role of the golden channel for international logistics is beginning to show. The data shows that in the past five months, the China-Laos Railway has sent a total of 2.9 million tons of goods. The freight volume in the fifth month reached 1.1 million tons, an increase of 5.5 times compared with the 170,000 tons in the first month; more than 2.7 million passengers were sent, including domestic. There are 2.388 million people in the segment and 312,000 people in the Laos segment.

The China-Laos Railway is an important infrastructure linking China and Laos, as well as an important part of the Trans-Asian Railway. Up to now, the freight volume of the China-Laos Railway has reached 1.1 million tons in the fifth month, an increase of 5.5 times compared with the 170,000 tons in the first month. Cambodia, Singapore and other more than 10 countries and regions, the categories of goods have expanded from rubber, fertilizers, and department stores in the early days of opening to more than 100 kinds of electronics, photovoltaics ,communications, automobiles, and flowers.

“Railway Express” helps cross-border trade and reduces business operating costs

It is understood that the railway express mode is an innovative supervision operation mode launched by the General Administration of Customs in order to improve the efficiency and facilitation of the transit transportation of imported and exported goods by railway within the territory of the country. And for goods that are not prohibited and restricted from carrying out customs transit business, qualified railway operators can apply for the opening of express service according to their own needs. The person in charge of the inbound and outbound railway trains shall transmit the electronic data of the railway manifest to the customs according to the regulations, and the customs shall, by reviewing, releasing and writing off the electronic data of the railway manifest, realize the supervision of the transit and transportation of the import and export goods carried on the railway train.

In addition, in order to ensure the smooth implementation and operation of the railway express mode, Kunming Customs actively cooperated with Chengdu Customs to set up a special working group for cross-customs areas under the premise of continuing to do a good job in the prevention and control of port epidemics to clarify the port and territorial operation procedures under the new mode , actively contact and connect with relevant enterprises to carry out business training, actively coordinate with railway departments and operating enterprises to complete their respective system upgrades, and continuously improve the efficiency of port customs clearance.
